Trout season starts around the 20 March and ends the third Sunday in September. This water is Category 1, so the extended Grayling season does not apply. If you want Grayling fishing after the trout season, then you will have to find some Category 2 water.

Compared to the rest of France, Normandy has extensive private fishing with little or no reciprocity agreements. In practical terms this means that the visiting angler will, in addition to joining the local AAPPMA and paying the 'Taxe Picicole', have to also pay for a fishing permit. This means you will get 3 documents. The 'Carte D'Identite Halieutique' has no expiry date (valid for life) and identifies you with a unique reference number. This number is then used in the second document which is the 'Carte de Peche', is valid for one year and shows that you are a member of a club and have paid the 'Taxe Piscicole'. The last document is the fishing permit and you have a choice of purchasing one that is valid for a day, weekend or year. If you are unsure as to the licensing requirements for France, please select THE LAW from the main menu.
