The Eleventh Plague Arrives
[The Jordan River - Michigan]
Moses couldn't have known about the Hex or he would have dispensed with the locusts and if you fish the spinner fall, you'd better wear a hard hat. The Hex, Great Olive Winged Drake or Hexagenia Limbata is one of the world's largest mayflies, emerges any time between mid June and mid July and draws anglers from far and wide to fish Michigan's famous Au Sable river.

Lapland Grayling
[The Vindel River - Vasterbotten]
The opening months of the year 2000's trout season was dire for most English fishermen and when we found ourselves in Swedish Lapland to fish for their large Grayling, the locals were muttering that it was the wettest June on record for a 100 years. Lapland's rivers Vindel and Juktån gave up some beautiful specimens and the friendliness of local fishermen is a joy to receive.

Mad Dogs and Englishmen
[The Krimmler Ache - Tirol]
The blistering heat of August but true to Noel Coward's reference to "mad dogs and Englishmen", you'll see me flogging the water at noon when anyone with even a modicum of sense would have a day of leisure and saunter down to the river for the evening rise. Looking for somewhere that fishes well in August, then look no further than Austria.
